Bartlett Recreation

At Bartlett Park District there are abundance of activities to enjoy. Such as hiking, jogging, cycling, cyclist enjoy using the Bartlett Trail. Bartlett Trail is a wide, paved pathway that stretches more than fourteen miles through the community. Each year one mile is added to the trail, with the goal of linking all parks and school sites.

The Bartlett Park District promotes many cultural activities. The district operates three community theatre production annually, in the summer there are concerts for the whole family in the Bartlett Park Gazebo.

The aquatic facility opened in 1993. It has a large swimming pool, an 18-foot water slide, kid's and play area, two sand volleyball courts, a grass sunning area, and a concession stand.

This is a nine-hole golf course, par three course and complete with a pro shop. Located nearby is the Bartlett Community Center containing a fully equipped kitchen, large multi-use room for banquets and theatre, 6 preschool rooms, 2 racquetball courts, fitness center, dance studio, triple gymnasium with running tracks, an indoor aquatic center and more! Plus, there is a preschool classroom, a large meeting room, and a gymnasium.

In addition there are other activities abound in the area, such as skate park, two tennis courts, a baseball field, five soccer fields, four softball fields, playground, picnic shelter, two lighted basketball courts, and a wintertime ice skating.

Bartlett Education

School District U-46 served the Village of Bartlett. It is a unit school systems encompassing elementary and secondary education. There are six elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools including a new high school in Bartlett scheduled to open in 1997. It is estimated that 30,000 students are enrolled in the district's 47 schools, which also serve ten other towns and villages.

Bartlett History

In the past the Village of Bartlett was part of Spain, France, Virginia, England, the Northwest Territory, Indiana, the Illinois Territory, and the State of Illinois. The area of the Village of Bartlett was a camping and hunting ground for the Pottawatomie, Ottowa, Miami, and Cherokee Indians.

Mr. Luther Bartlett, a native of Conway, Massachusetts, owned the forty acre of land with is now call Village of Bartlett. The Bartlett family used this place as a "woodlot" for storing their lumber, building and for wood fires.

The place became officially a village in 1891. The first President of the village was Georgy Struckman, who served until 1899 and again from 1901-1911.

In 1900, the population at Bartlett's was 360, then in 1970 there was 3501 to 36,706 in 2000. The projected population for the year 2020 is 47,500.
